the world, new-washed, after rain

by Renee Liang

the world, new-washed, after rain

the world, new-washed, after rain.
i walk the line between earth and sky
watch the sky’s reflection fade
into fire, pierced by birds’ flight.

i walk the line between earth and sky
in mirrored beach I see my footprints disappear
into fire, pierced by birds’ flight
I think of when you will pass. I tear.

in mirrored beach I see my footprints disappear
sand closing over memories of your past
I think of when you will pass. I tear
open the sky, its beating heart.

sand closing over memories of your past
the rhythm taken up by my feet pushing back the tide
open the sky, its beating heart
spills molten magma, passes the light.

the rhythm taken up by my feet pushing back the tide
of time, of impending pain
spilling molten magma, passing the light -
the world, new-washed, after rain.
