Poetry Live! is New Zealand’s longest running open mic, running for 40+ years. 

 

Since 1980, the Poetry Live! community has moved from place to place, settling for the moment at Café 39 on Auckland's iconic Ponsonby Road.

 

Poetry Live is a celebration of everything spoken word. Every Wednesday night we host an open mic event with special guest poets and musicians to really get the inspirational juices flowing.

 

We invite you to come along, to sit and listen or to join in. Open mic readers can read their own, original work or a favourite piece by another writer. All subjects and styles are welcome (you can read off the page or recite from heart), however, we strictly adhere to a code of inclusivity and respect and we expect all attendees to show this to one another. For Open Mic readers there is a 5 min limit, and you can sign your name in the Open Mic book any time during the night to get up on the open mic.
